I am Associate Professor at the School of Information Management and a member of the Centre for Logic, Language and Computation both at the Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. My contact details are on my staff home page.

Before my move to the capital in April 2008, I was a member of the Department of Information Systems at Massey University, Palmerston North. In 2004, I completed my PhD in Information Systems on a topic in Database Theory.

Originally, I come from the small village of Benzingerode, Germany, which is now part of Wernigerode, the "colorful town in the Harz foothills". This town is famous for its castle, townhouse and splendid timber-framed houses.

From 1995 to 2000 I studied Computer Science and Mathematics at the Clausthal University of Technology in Clausthal-Zellerfeld, Germany. This is where I received my Master's degree in Computer Science in April 2000, just before I made the big move to New Zealand.

My main research interest is the application of logic, algebra and combinatorics to computer science. I have mainly worked in the area of database theory, conceptual modeling, and XML. However, I am also very much interested in the motivation of my research area, in particular in the perceived drivers and barriers to concepts in databases and modeling. Details are listed in my current CV.
